Meow, I don't think Elona is gonna get the chance for babies she wanted. From that first panel Liam was on the Academy fencing team, damn well better forget those ideas this ain't stomp, thrust and parry this is hack, slash, kick and stab no points for form only thing that counts is when the other guy is dead..

She says that you don't want to focus on the eyes? I took Karate,Kung Fu and Aikedo and all of my Dans told me that the eyes are the windows of the enemy so you will be able to see their movements more clearly.I have lived with that and will do so always.I think Liam shouldn't listen to Her on that part of training.

That may sound like a cool thing for a karate instructor to say to a student but in actual combat if you are looking at your opponent's eyes and he's looking at yours what are you learning about his next move?
In actual hand-to-hand combat you are taught to use your peripheral vision to view your target and focus on your opponent's hips. Every action always starts in the hips. Get in front of a mirror and throw a punch, a kick, or swing a sword and the first thing you will see move is the hips.
In the story, Liam has had extensive hand-to-hand training and he knows this. Liri is the one person that can make him screw up all that training. This is the first clue to something that happens later on.
