Isn't the Duchess the one that paid for the death of Wrenna's mother and then framed her husband?

OokaaY, the king swears to be a better father to Wrenna and in the same breath promises her away in marriage, no doubt for political gain. Good job Stollo, your a helluva father. Let's put you on a pedestal for that. I'm sure Wrenna will be there every day to thank you for being such a thoughtful father to her.

She may wind up as "collateral damage" when a certain undead corpse takes her revenge.

Fairly normal practice between noble families throughout Earth history. The princess may not be happy, but she ought not to be surprised.

"I have been a terrible father to you, to make up for it, I have sold you to a stranger. Pack you bags, you leave on the next tide to go to his home. You are his now. Remember, daddy loves you sweetie!"

In historical period, The Lady was responsible for running the Estate, while The Lord was off fighting and/or whatever else his own Overlord wanted him doing. You can't look at these matters with 21st Cent. biases.

Wasn't looking at it from 21st century (or even 20th), they were _still_ property of the master of the estate. That's like saying the head of the Harem (who was in charge of all the other girls) wasn't still a slave herself
