Keep swinging that shield around like that and you're going to hurt someone.

Oldarmourer posted this speed shooting vid earlier in the chapter. I thought it was a pretty cool technique.

From the 1st picture it looks like her longsword was pointing away & not towards him as everyone thought in the prior episode. Gauging perspective from a 2 dimensional drawing can be tricky.

She was thinking about taking the swing then saw him swinging back around so tried to dodge. Indecision can get you killed.

I'm guessing he's more used to being in command than actual personal combat...or else he's really, really, stupid!

The helm's limiting of his peripheral vision would do more than being blind in one eye. A trained warrior will learn the depth perception necessary. And slashing is less reliant on judging distance precisely than thrusting.
What matters more is how long he'd been blind there. Given time, it won't be an issue. I'm the extreme example, having never had binocular vision. My depth perception is average, and my field of vision isn't far from the norm.
He's going to die because he was stupid and forgot he was fighting 2 opponents.

He's going to die because his guards were standing there watching the battle instead of guarding him.

I don't think they're watching anything because I think they're dead.

If they start looking back when the first arrow hits, it's a little bit late IMO.

I seem to be confused. (Not the first time)
As I understood it, Valerius and his two guys took off, because they were getting beaten. They wouldn't really have been watching the battle; they would be facing/moving away from it. Liri and Eloma come upon them from what would seem to be their right rear. They closed in from the rear, and Liri took out Valerius' buddies, leaving him by himself.

Yes. If you got to "maps" and look at the 4th map down, the Vang Gaer came up through that pass just below the green arrow and turned to the southwest to engage the rear. Valerius was headed northeast to return to Dalai.

Can't tell where Eloma's sword ended up, but here's a handy replacement in a pinch!

Don't worry Elona. Those wounds aren't instantly lethal, you have time to make his last few minutes excruciating.

Exactly. If Liri can stick one right in his sword hand, I'm sure she planted the 2nd shot as non-lethal intentionally.

looks like he's immune to inertia :)
or maybe that shield wasn't quite as heavy as advertised...
or maybe he hoped she'd fall for his clever ruse...
and no, those arrows aren't lethal strikes...yet...I sort of think the girls have no interest in finishing him quickly given theose shots and he might not like where his sword is probably going to end up... to paraphrase another wronged woman "this is going to take a long time and you're not going to like it"

that was fast, this is faster...
maybe she should have stayed on the horse :)

That is fast!
Or maybe they didn't kill him because they want to interrogate him first. Remember, they have a mystery to solve.

It's also worth noting that he is doing it with a much heavier bow, using a well proven thumb ring draw and actually hitting targets. She is using a very lite bow, using an inverted draw that does little for accuracy and hitting we know not what.
oldarmourer

at that range even I could hit him where I wanted to...
as for the videos, in the first one you'll notice her arrows are all hitting in pretty much exactly the same spot and she's moving around while shooting..even though that sort of shooting is meant for speed at close range not pinpoint accuracy at distance a lighter bow helps speed and a laminated recurve style like that usually has a pretty hefty draw for it's sizeweight for it's size which with the close range adds up to the same oomph as a longbow from a 'safe' distance faster with comparable hitting power, it's like a 20ga vs a 12ga... 80% of the power for half the recoil meaning faster followup shots...not entitely translatable to bows but close enough for gov't work. :)

that is NOT a lite bow.!! the arrows went threw 2 layers of heavy leather an a arm ,, the other don't look like it hit any armor , jus meat an muscle.. the target arrow that hit me only went 3 1/2 inches in.. ( 30 lb compound @ 20 yards ,, from right side directly under the lung..)
