Is this two separate entities, or representation of two personalities speaking with each other while inhabiting the same body?

The one on the left is Crystyn Weiss, navigator from the Demetrius. On the right is Essential, Tyranos' sentient repair program. Essential loaded herself into Crystyns body in chapter 11 and at the moment they are in a simulation program that they run together.

Why do I think Essential won't have much trouble talking her into it?

Technically, Essential would not need to involve another person to partially experience human sexuality. She could try a "solo voyage" first. Ms. Weiss could take the reigns. Essential is completely inexperienced, anyway, and she can see and feel everything Crystyn's body experiences.
Crystyn could say no on grounds of embarrassment or personal belief. (Or how this is the wrong place and time.) But they do have to share a body. They're stuck together for the rest of their life. It's probably going to happen sooner or later, anyway. For that matter, Ms. Weiss ought to feel relieved that Essential wants to build trust and how she asked for permission.
