Sorry, you're both wrong. See the Cast page. It was Princess Yokai Shiguri who taught Liam and who told him he was the one forseen in their prophecy. And Yokai's brother was Prince Kuramata Shiguri, not Hochi. I say "was" because the prince just died in the mountains.

Yes, it was Yokai that taught him ailuranthropy (shapeshifting). Hochi is second cousin to Yokai and Kuramata but all the Dalai are related in some way anyway.
Yokai believes that the prophecy says that Liam will destroy the city of Dalai so she taught him the shapeshifting. Kuramata however, believed that Dalai will be retaken and was training an elite force of Kyudoka archers to do so. Yaochi is the only remaining Kyudojin or master of the art. If Kuramata's dream is to come true it will be Yaochi that makes it happen. More of the Dalai to come!

I must have forgotten that Kuramata believed the city of Dalai would be retaken. Or was that revealed?
It's the Barghest and Mag Leung who strive to exterminate them. And the latter seems the most dangerous. We'll see what happens. There are different possibilities. But I think there is a straightforward solution - both to the threat of Tyranos and the threat of extinction faced by the Dalai. It involves an orbiting ship (of which there are currently three), but not the weapons systems.
But then, as I recall, Liam doesn't yet know about Tyranos.
Also, I have to wonder if Unity will be the only AI/human hybrid in this story. Cygnos seems to be having second thoughts about throwing his lot in with Tyranos, so maybe...

@XPACETRUE - Kuramata briefly spoke of it on page 123 but it becomes a major factor later on.
The only thing Liam knows is that Yokai said he was to kill their false god. Hochi has seen Tyranos and Signos so he may bring it up, but Liam doesn't know anything about Signos going rogue either.

All of which is terribly interesting (I read so many webcomics details become blurred) and none of which explains why Liam and Hochi look like cat-twins. ;P

Yokai said he would change into an animal that he was familiar with but at that time the only animal he had seen was one of the Mag Leung's guardian cats from the cat pen when they took Natalia.
Hochi and his brother were assigned to spy on the Leung king. They did this by blending in with the rest of the cats from the cat pen.
All of the Mag Leung guardian cats are the same breed and look the same.
If you're asking why their markings are exactly the same, the answer is that these are pre-made Daz models. I didn't make them or texture them.

Also, I just love the girls "WTF?" expressions in panel 2. :D The way they're frozen in mid swing and just "Huh? Where'd they come from?" is priceless.
I wonder if Carri would have been so quick to tell him to get off her if it had been Liam that tackled her instead of Hochi?
