The problem with Earth's Counter Piracy Forces is that they spend most of their adult lives in stasis while traveling from conflict to conflict. So while she might look like she's in her mid 20's she has the life experiences of an 18 year old. But most of those first 18 years were spent in military training so she knows what she's doing.
Vyrkola on the other hand comes from a race who's entire society is based on war as evidenced by their superior military technology. Stealth tech and more later on.
She sees him as cynical while he views her as naive.

The equalizing factor here is the armor. It's a powered exoskeleton, making women just as strong. I'm eventually going to add some external servos like I did on my android power armor to make it more obvious. Also if you notice the crotch area on the armor there's something going on there that would explain the biological issues.
Chief Gamble does come off as mouthy and disrespectful... but there is a hint about their relationship in frame 5.
There are a few other incorrect things that a military person might pick up on like the fact that she's wearing earrings in combat or the insignia on their hats.
I'll go into the military aspects in depth in the next book but for now just know that this branch of the military is very different from the military on Earth.

Don't agree with Basic Military Tactics. America's military is the most powerful army to walk the face of the Earth. However that being said, everything it does is not always best. I've been on 7 different operational tours overseas, been shot at blown up and shot back. I've also instructed recruits in our Battle School in Wainwright for 3 years. Speaking from experience, women make just as fine soldiers. I've fought along side with them under fire on my two tours in Afghanistan. They're fine. The difference with the Canadian Army, is we don't impose separated standards for the different genders. There's only one standard; to fight effectively in combat, with our individual weapons and field tests aimed solely to that end.
Don't really want to start an argument, cause my fav guys to work with overseas are the Americans. I just had to state my piece out of loyalty to my female siblings in arms who've had my back in combat. Whom I've trusted more than any civie, and have watched these girls give up as much of their soul as any soldier through out history has been asked to do.
I just assumed that this organization depicted did not fall into American military organizational model, which is what I assumed with Diz's crew here.
I just made the assumption that they're all well trained, and passed whatever requirements needed to fulfill their roles.
We've had to deal with many dudes who were paranoid about everything and everyone when we were outside the wire. These guys always in the end had to be removed. Too unstable and lacking the true maturity required to behave as a professional under pressure.

Most of the women in this story are strong characters that are not dependent on some man to take care of them... with the exception of Mirrame, but in her case it's an act just to use them.

Good points. There is a huge difference between a woman trying to swing a broadsword in medieval times and a woman soldier of the future in powered exo-armor firing a rifle.
In this story though, Neela, Liri and Eloma are deadly efficient with their weapons. The only time we see a difference in the sexes is during the Angurad when the men take the ships out of the path of the storm and the women run the city - Page 48

Good point Kitty! I've served overseas with females fighting as infantry and combat engineers in actual combat.
The differences between the genders are there. The differences are not significant enough to build an argument on who is better suited to be a soldier though. As far as the logistics of looking after menstrual cycles, we already have the technology; tampons and pads. Girls will carry enough to to look after themselves. Not once during my tours overseas did 'girl issues' become a problem. Again, I'm chiming in out of loyalty to my fellow female Canadian Soldiers.
