Signos probably used a thermobaric. If you noticed, he has been reading from a book and some notes on the table, suggesting that it was an ancient guarded secret kind of like Greek fire.

Also, looks like Meigumi was the only one to make it out?

Do they not retain their piercings when in animal form? That seems a bit odd...

Well, they don't retain their clothing, and what about nipple and genital piercings? o_O

It's not magic. Remember that they are shifting into another timeline. Like when Unity stuck her hand in the rift and it turned into another creature.

So when a Dalai shape-shifts, they become (or appear to become) the animal that they would've been in another timeline, for instance, one where the Ancients never enhanced the evolution on the planet.

You have the Dalai and the Mala and the Kurra, it's difficult for me to remember which ones are whom: there are cat-people, and the rat-people and the... not sure what the third one is based on (unless you have domestic cats and Big Cats)

Thank you, was meaning the beasties they appear to be
So, the Leung are doggies, Dalai are kitties, Mala are half-kitties, Cheng are half-doggie half-kittie (do they chase themselves up trees? :P ), aren't the Kurra meeses (Rodentis Sapien)?

Well, Meigumi, and Signos, ( probably a little singed around the edges.) :D

Hmmm... Tyranos did have an on-board fire system on page 120.

I don't think I got 3 "A" list characters for my kills score card. SIGNOS seems a little too well built to be killed by a primitive chemical explosive and a few hunred tons of rock.

Plus, his maintenance program hasn't hijacked a human body and departed for parts unknown.

A bit self-defeating to issue a warning that "all will remember" & then wipe out all your witnesses.

He's referring to the 2 armies outside, the point of the last frame.

Yeah, butt unless there was a loudspeaker broadcasting to everyone outside, how will they know what the message was?

Sapiens

One-eyed Mike
9th Jul 2019, 4:25 PM

In the Latin language, Homo means "human" or "human race", while Sapiens means "wise" or "intelligent". So, Homo Sapiens means "intelligent human", to distinguish us from extinct Homo variations who were a bit dumber.

So, the word Sapiens should end in s, and the chart should read Canis Sapiens, Felis Sapiens and Homo Sapiens, to mean intelligent dog, cat and man.

It's not one homo sapien, two homo sapiens.

You have a point about the sapiens. I'll fix that before I use that image again. Thanks for the info.

I applaud One-Eyed Mike's points and attention to detail here. Though, there is one additional quibble to be made:

The proper scientific name for human beings is homo sapiens sapiens. I added emphasis on the fact that 'sapiens' should be repeated. Writing it that way may look like a misprint, but it is not.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_taxonomy#Subspecies

While "homo sapiens" refers to more recent humans as the genus, this is very broad, while "homo sapiens sapiens" is very specific to modern humans as a species (and the only extant human subspecies). For the sake of brevity, this can be abbreviated as "H. s. sapiens". For the difference between genus and species, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxonomic_rank

The way other subspecies are named should make this very clear. For example, the scientific name for the Cro-Magnon human subspecies is "Homo sapiens cro-magnonensis" or "H. s. cro-magnonensis" and the scientific name for the Neanderthal subspecies is "Homo sapiens neanderthalensis" or "H. s. neanderthalensis".

Other subspecies are named similarly. Java Man (the human ancestor fossils found in the 1970s, not necessarily a coffee addict) is "Homo erectus erectus", while Peking Man is "Homo erectus pekinensis".

Sorry about the nitpick/mini-rant. But I find it tiring to see so very many examples of sci-fi and fantasy get this wrong. We've come to expect such inaccuracies in Hollywood's fiction. Yet I can't help having higher standards for independent works as I tend to think more highly of them.

I had figured out that Signos intended to blow the place up, I'm just not sure what the reason for it is yet. He'll more than likely survive the explosion and collapse, but was he just trying to deny the armies their prize? If so, is he just banking on the explosion being impressive enough that they'll not seek revenge on him? i don't understand Signos well enough to read his mind, so figuring out what his plans are from this point on is presumptuous.

He hinted at his motives in the last frame on page 446 but it becomes clear in the next chapter.
