Bits of memory coming back to her.

So Mitri is actually Kurra, which is basically a mix of everything.

Carri remembered her in the same clothes in her flashbacks so it probably was what she was wearing. The Kurra are recent refuges too so it's most likely what she was wearing before they relocated.

Mag Kurra = Mag Dalai + Human + Mag Leung. Slaves. Interesting.

But this does not explain how or why Mitri's family moved to that island. Were her parents escaped slaves who fled for freedom or from persecution? They are slaves of which society: Mag Leung, Mag Dalai or both?

Mitri may or may not remember all the details as things come back to her. But right now she's more concerned about remembering where her father and brother might have gone. If her father decided to go back "home" it may be relevant.

Kurra are a slave race bred by the Mag Leung to get rid of the Dalai/Mala scent, which they despise. Sense of smell is much keener with the Leung than it is with the other races. Some are kept in Dhar-Dalai like Mirrame was. Other Kurra lived in Port Leamarone "The Rat Hole" under the supervision of the Countess H'Ellion. But now that the countess is dead and most of the remaining Leung have left Dalai, there may be a mass exodus of Kurra refugees.

Aren't the Mag Kurra generally looked down upon by the Minkie... or not? I would think that there would be at least some prejudice against them, at least with some of the Minkie. Don't some Minkie compare them with Mag Cheng?

Perhaps King Stollo attacked that island knowing that most Minkie would not make a huge deal out of Kurra refugees dying and not look too closely at the trial?

For the most part the Minkie can't tell the difference between Minkie and Kurra. Mitri was raised as a Minkie and she never knew she wasn't, until now. Also, they don't know that the Cheng and Kurra are the same and call them "lost ones" believing that they are people that were lost underground. Generations of living underground have changed their appearance with pale skin and pink eyes. But most of the Minkie have never seen a Kurra so if Mitri did smell a bit different they wouldn't equate that to being different.

Stollo sent the Vang Gaer to deal with the issue instead of his navy so that it would remain covert, but that kind of blew up when Lennare killed their commander. Maybe that's why he commuted their sentence so quickly to hush everything up. The Vang Gaer work directly for the king and do his dirty work in silence.

The island lifestyle looks pretty idyllic to us old fogies, but I bet it's boring as hell to a youngster.

Yeah because we want to relax, maybe do a little fishing. Kids just want to go go go.
