Elephant about the only thing heavier than a rhino. Ought to have a couple hidden races Elephant People, a race of penguin people inhabiting the south polar region the would just irritate you to death and the elephant people would live wherever they wanted and sit on you if you objected.

Elephants would make more sense because all 3 species of elephant have been used for war in the past. But I went with rhinos instead because Lord of the Rings already did elephants.

But LotR didn't have friggin cat-girls on friggin rhinos!

"Take no prisoners, kill everyone!"
"What do you mean there aren't any prisoners to interrogate?"

Definite blond moment.

At least she owned up to her mistake.

I'm really happy she didn't say "my bad".

Me too. I used to coach high school football and I grew to hate that expression.

A strategy that would be approved by Erwin Rommel, Heinz Guderian, and George Patton... mobility and striking where the enemy does not expect.

I can't get into specific tactics without spoilers but I can give an overview.

The Mag Leung army is much like the Greek Phalanx. The Hoplite Phalanx would push their enemy into the center while their Companion Cavalry and heavy infantry would attack from the flanks.

But the Leung phalanx proved vulnerable to the Dalai Kyudoka's superior flanking speed at The Battle of the Northern Rise (pg 263) so I would expect them to have made some improvements.

The Vang Gaer's tactics are an improved version of Genghis Khan's "horns attack", that they call "bull and horns" where the rhino cavalry are the bull's head that smash the center while the horse cavalry horns envelope the flanks.

Check back in tomorrow (Sat.) for more on the phalanx.

Why am I imagining that the war song of the Vang Gaer heavy cavalry is Gilbert & Sullivan's "With Cat-Like Tread" from The Pirates of Penzance? ^_^

Haa! I've never seen the movie so I just watched that clip on youtube. They sure are making a lot of noise for being cat-like stealthy.

Thanks. The main purpose of these Vang Gaer scenes is to contrast how they get in and get out quickly and without ever returning compared to how Liam is totally failing at that task.

There's a page later this chapter that puts it all together.

Liam doesn't have their mobility ... on the other hand his movements are a bit harder to detect than rhino mounted cavalry.
