If those are the all Officers and General Staff of the army, I hope they have a secret weapon, besides Liam and his space weapons. With as few bodies as they have they are screwed.

They have 1500 heavy infantry and 800 archers. If the Mag Leung split off a quarter, they will be going up against 2500, which should be no problem for them.

Hmmmm .9 to 1 I really would prefer them to have at least 1.5 to 1 were doing the strategy on this battle.

Hmm... With those numbers for their soldiers going to war, I have to wonder how many Dalai remain in total. And that makes me wonder if the species may be doomed to a gradual extinction even if they win.

Granted, I doubt that they are as inbred as humans. Most animals can tolerate one generation of inbreeding without ill effect. But in humans there is a far greater chance of broken genes and deformities. Most species can remain more stable throughout a greater number of generations than humans. I can't quote anyone on it, but I suspect that if the human population were to ever dip below 5 or 10 thousand or so, that might lead to a gradual decline and extinction.

I believe the stated number for human species survival would be a colony of no less than an extremely diverse 12,000. Even at that size diversity in procreation might need to be enforced to avoid genetic problems.

Political commentary, Donald Trump and David Duke would hate that.

They've been at less than 5000 for the past 200 years or so. They could probably hold out for another 100 years without a new source of genetics but then they would start seeing some abnormalities before then.

The Dalai are based on stories of The Seminole Tribe and the Florida panther. One small group of Seminoles escaped The Trail of Tears and started their tribe with less then 100 people. I'm not sure how long it was before they had some new genetics though. The Florida Panther was at less then 20 in the '70s but are at about 160 now. Since they are a subspecies of puma, biologists have introduced some new genes from Texas pumas so they may yet survive, but only if they get more land. Lobbyists for Big Sugar line the pockets of politicians and the panther has been limited to about 8000 acres of protected land. This will only support a population of about 200. Carnivores need a lot more land then herbivores do.

The Dalai have a complicated social system called Hanshoku (propagation of the species). They also have a clan system and they must marry outside of their clan.

Yokai believes that their people must have some "new blood" to survive as she stated earlier in the story. But then there are the "purists" like Yaochi that believes they must remain pure.

Based on the above graph, I stand by my statement of a minimum 12K with forced diversity propagation for species survival with minimal genetic abnormalities.

Yokai has already begun diversity introduction by breeding with Liam, a program to bring a diverse gene pool from the outside is going to prove very hard as their potential human donors are very limited in numbers and Hiz Excellency King Dufus wants to eradicate them. Looks like capture and the females torture their male captives with sex in order to get the most women pregnant, while the men are going to have to seduce the female captives to obtain breeding partners who won't kill themselves and the off spring.

It does look like an excellent opportunity for Unity to "scratch her itch" (pun intended) and try sex with a male mammal.

I think you're correct about the 12k minimum part and Yokai and Liam. Maybe she intends to infuse a little of the Minkie gene pool too.
