Unity is being a stalking voyeur from her happy place.
Addy is "Admiral", her horse's name.

How can Unity get that kind of viewing angle from inside the cargo hold? Even if she placed a tiny spy camera, she'd have to basically mount it on a pole off to one side of the boat.

I imagine Unity is creating a virtual reality representation of the scene in her head, based on her data of the environment. But is Unity equipped with scanners that can continuously scan the environment, from inside the cargo hold? We don't have that tech today, do we? It can't be either radar or sonar. But then, this is the far future.

They are in the virtual world that Essential made. Remember that she said that "This place can be anywhere you can imagine..." and "This simulation is reconstructed from our memories". The next time you see them you'll see how they are able to get enough of a view to build from.

You think she's going to get between him and Carri? That's Essential's reflection in the glass.

The problem is the lack of men. Most of the men are fishermen and are out at sea most of the time.

Perhaps if the prophecy is fulfilled and the Angurad finally ends, the men won't have to be away fishing so far away and can return home much more often? Otherwise, couldn't they fish close to their home ports near the coast?

Actually, why couldn't they rely more on farming? The Angurad only comes once every two years. Does that still tend to ruin crops? Perhaps agriculture would become more important if the Angurad ended?

You did mention that the Minkie have steam power and are on the verge of an industrial revolution. A big factor in industrialization and commercialization is the availability of cheap food. If people don't have to spend most of their time growing, catching or earning enough to eat, that time and money could be spent on other things. And it does sound like the Angurad has a huge impact on their lives and limits what they can do.

All Felidae are carnivores so they require a much higher proportion of protein in their diet. Of all the mammals, cats are the strictest carnivores. The Mag Dalai are obligate carnivores so their diet is almost exclusively meat, however they are fond of honey too. The Mag Mala are half human so they do eat some plants and they farm to a small extent.

The plateau is home to quite a few different species of antelope, but antelope are hard to domesticate for a number of reasons. They have managed to domesticate a few of the less nervous species and they use them as pack animals and a traveling meal like in Chapter 4. They also make cheese from their milk. They have domesticated horses as well but they don't eat them.

The bay that was formed by the asteroid impact is very shallow and would soon be "fished out" if they didn't travel offshore in search of larger game, like the huge tuna-like species from deeper water.

If the Angurad ended they may be able to build taller fences that antelope can't jump over and that didn't blow away every other year.
